Zooey and Emily Deschanel are sisters!

So I’m sure this is a known fact to a lot of people, but to me this came as a pleasant surprise as I watched two of my favorite actresses and started noticing how alike they are. I decided to do some research, the first clue was the fact that they have the same last name! I was convinced. And when thoughts about my first blog came about, the first story that came to mind was the one of these two beautiful and talented women, so let me begin.

Emily Deschanel, born October 11th, 1976 in Los Angeles, California (only 6 days after me…and 6 years before me) to actress Mary Jo Deschanel and cinematographer / Director Caleb Deschanel, after receiving her Bachelors of fine arts in Theater from Boston University she made her debut in the 1994 movie “It Could Happen To You” along side Nicholas Cage and Bridget Fonda.

With a few major films under her belt such as “The Alamo”(2003) with Billy Bob Thornton and Dennis Quaid, “Spiderman 2”(2004) with Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst, “Boogeyman” (2005) with Lucy Lawless ( Xena…I love that show), “Glory Road” (2006) with Josh Lucas and Tatiana Ali ( Ashley from the Fresh Prince), and even a few Television guest appearances on show like “Crossing Jordan”, “Providence”, and “Law & Order: SVU” all led her to the amazing show that made her a television icon -“Bones” along side the hottest man alive (according to me) David Boreanez (profile to come).

Emily plays the brilliant and extremely calculated forensic anthropologist – Temperance Brennan, who works at the Jeffersonian Institute in Washington, DC and dabbles in writing mystery – murder novels based on her full time job (that even led to real murders in one of the episodes). With her partner FBI Agent Sealy Booth (David Boreanez) and her team of “squints” as Booth likes to call them, they solve the most mysterious cases by carefully examining skeletal remains and giving the victims a story. This is one of my favorite shows so please check it out Thursdays at 8 on FOX.

Zooey Deschanel, born January 17th, 1980 in Los Angeles, to obviously the same parents as Emily. Zooey decided to follow in the footsteps of her family of actors after graduating from CaliforniaCrossroads High school in Santa Monica, California.

Much like her older sister, Zooey also managed to collect a healthy list of movies to her bio starting with her claim to fame “Almost Famous” with the amazing Kate Hudson, “The Good Girl” (2002) with Jennifer Aniston, “Elf” (2003) with Will Ferrell, “The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy” (2005), one of my favorite movies “Failure to Launch” with Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew McConaughey where I first noticed her – how to kill a mocking bird ; “there’s a guide? One copy, right here” hahaha brilliant, and her 2008 success in “The Happening” with Mark Walberg and “Yes Man” with the ridiculously hysterical Jim Carrey.

Recently Zooey became engaged to “Death Cab for Cutie” Ben Gibbard. These too amazing actresses are extremely talented no matter what role they take so I guess it runs in the family…
