Stephenie Meyer brought us one of the most popular sagas of all time with Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn. Now it’s time for something other then glowing vampires and shirtless werewolves, like Aliens for example. In Meyer’s new book turned movie, The Host, aliens are taking over earth, but not in the usual gloom and doom kind of way they always do.
The trailer starts off with a voice explaining what’s going on on earth, “The earth is at peace. There are no wars. There is no hunger. Honesty, courtesy and kindness are practiced by all. The world has never been more…perfect.” If that’s not Stepford Wives enough for you, she finishes by saying, “It is no longer your world.” That voice belongs to lead actress Saoirse Ronan, who plays Melanie Stryder, a rebel in a world that has lost to an invasion.
The aliens have taken over by implanting docile alien souls into the minds of humans, turning them into their puppets. Even though Stryder was on the run for a while, she is eventually captured and implanted with a soul named Wanderer, which she still manages to fight. Of course she also has a love interest named Jared Howe, played by Max Irons (Red Riding Hood).
So could Ronan and Irons be the new R-Pats and K-Stew? Very possible. Ronan is not new to playing the lead, she was Hanna in Hanna and and Susie Salmon in The Lovely Bones, and with her long brown hair in The Host, she bears somewhat of a resemblance to Jennifer Lawrence in The Hunger Games. The movie also co-stars Diane Kruger, Jake Abel (I Am Number Four), Frances Fisher (Titanic), William Hurt, and Scott Lawrence (Avatar).
The Host comes out March 29th, 2013 – Will it live up to the Twilight Saga popularity?
