Released in 1986, Addicted to Love became immensely popular, partly due to the music video itself. Right after it’s release, Addicted to Love topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart, the Billboard Top Rock Tracks chart as well as the UK Singles Chart. The song was supposed to be a duet with Chaka Khan but due to label conflicts that did not happen.
The music video shows Robert Palmer as the lead singer and a group of models with pale skin, heavy makeup and dark hair as his backups. The models in the video are (from left to right) Patty Kelly, Julie Pankhurst, Mak Gilchrist and Julia Bolino with Kathy Davies on drums. In an interview with Q Magazine, one of the models said: “We were meant to look and “act” like showroom mannequins. The director got us tipsy on a bottle of wine but as we were having our make-up retouched, I lost my balance and knocked the top of my guitar into the back of Robert’s head, and his face hit the microphone.”
On one of VH1′s most hilarious shows, Pop-up Video, the video trivia mentioned that a musician was hired to teach the models basic guitar fingering techniques, but gave up after about an hour and left. Addicted to Love pretty much put Robert Palmer on the map and is one of the most famous videos to date. Enjoy.
