I wasn’t planning on a Top Video Monday today as pretty much the last post was a Top Video Monday but when me and Mr. Smith saw a ‘believe it or not’ Geico commercial with Charlie Daniels in it and I just couldn’t resist. Great publicity for Charlie Daniels though.
This song was written, performed and released by the Charlie Daniels Band in 1979 on their Million Mile Reflections album. The song tells the story of the devil, who comes to Georgia looking for souls and is willing to make a deal. The devil runs to a skillful guy named Johnny and challenges him to a fiddle-off for his soul. However if Johnny wins, he will receive a golden fiddle from the devil himself. Johnny indeed won and welcomed the devil to come back anytime for a rematch.
