Are you ready for summer ladies? More importantly, is your hair ready for summer? Brought to you by Cosmopolitan, I would like to introduce the hottest summer hairstyles on this side of the Mississippi. To quote the lovely magazine: “These romantic styles don’t require much time or squeaky-clean strands”. Well said Cosmo. I for one don’t have time or squeaky clean strands. I’m one of those girls who washes their hair every other day because my hair actually needs those oils it develops when it’s not freshly washed. So that second day, I always find interesting ways to put my hair in so it doesn’t look grungy. These laid back hairstyles are fantastically perfect.
1. The Flirty Fishtail Braid – This is the perfect beach hair braid. Why? The salty air actually gives your hair a certain texture which gives your hair those sun kissed beachy strands (I always wondered why that happens) and makes your hair perfect for braiding. If your hair is not within salty air breathing distance, Cosmo recommends using a sea salt spray on damp hair and letting it air dry. Try David Babaii for WildAid Beach Spray – 6.6 oz.
Next step, fishtail braid: First divide your hair in half and hold the left and right sides in each hand. Grab a half-inch section from the outside of the right side and add it to the inside of the left side. Repeat with a piece from the outside of the left side, adding it to the inside of the right side. Continue switching pieces until you run out of hair and secure with an elastic. Position the braid over your shoulder (Of your choosing) then tug out a few pieces around your face for a breezy effect (or just let the wind do its thing).
2. The Figure Eight Bun – If you’re one of those girls who likes to twist your hair in a casual bun and stick a pencil in it when your bored at work, this is the hairstyle for you. A pencil might not always be appropriate though, so when you need a quick classy but sassy do, try this one on for size. Make a low ponytail, leaving a few pieces loose around your face. Twist the length of your hair, wrap it in a figure-eight, push it up against the back of your head and tuck the ends into the loop you’ve just made. Insert a few hairpins or tiny barrettes to secure your locks all in place and finish with some lightweight hair spray for extra hold. Cosmo likes Paul Mitchell Express Style Worked Up 11oz.
3. Over The Shoulder Curls – Now this is probably the easiest hairstyle to do and I don’t just mean easy for professionals, I mean easy for you. All you have to do is work in some oil into your damp hair, Cosmo’s pick: Sally Hershberger Genius Spray Wax – 3.5 oz.
Then twist strands of hair into wavy locks and lay all your hair on one shoulder. To secure the hair on your shoulder while it dries, you can stick a few bobby pins in it. When you are ready to let it loose, take out the pins and let your locks fly.
4. Swept Up Sexy – This is literally the Snookie of all hairstyles and it won’t work if you hair is too clean. If your hair is clean, the strands will slide right down but if your hair is more oily and grungy, it will hold better. However, if you want to work the style on clean hair, try Sexy Hair Organics Volumizing Mousse (5.1 oz.). Take a comb and tease your strands in order to build volume. Part your hair on the side and sweep back the top half of your hair. Push the sweeped section up slightly to form a small bump and secure with bobby pins. Slightly brush your strands but don’t make it perfect, it should look a little messy.
