My Disdain For Andy Roddick Continues …

Andy-Roddick-Doha-2009_17490801Those familiar with this site are aware of my prejudice against Andy Roddick , those just arriving, allow me to update your on his latest and greatest performance.

The last major of the year is always played in Flushing NY and it’s the only major to be played on US soil.  The two-week tournament began a week ago today, and on the Men’s side, the higher seeds have been rolling along.  This was of course, until American anti-great Andy Roddick took the court against 51st ranked John Isner.  Isner is a hard serving young-gun that few thought could hang with the likes of Roddick.

After the first 90 minutes of the match, the crowd was stunned.  Two sets down, the new and improved Roddick (At least that’s what “experts” were calling him) found himself ready to be knocked out of the US Open, again far too early.  I must give Andy a small bit of credit as I very much expected him to tank the third and be on his way but he fought hard and was able to regain his composure, which is rare, to win sets three and four.  However, in dramatic fashion, Roddick could not outlast Isner in a 5th set tiebreak (Which is ridiculous.  Deciding a 4 hour match on a tiebreak should be changed ASAP) leaving Roddick and US Mens Tennis in despair once again.

Just to make sure the crowd was totally pissed off when they left, James Blake lost in straight sets to Tommy Robredo in the night match, assuring that the Men’s champion will come from Switzerland, Serbia, or Spain.  (Sorry France, Tsonga not ready yet)

And so, I desperately need Andy Roddick to retire to end the charade.  Rather then write about the plight of US Men’s tennis, I would rather write about the next American born champion of a major.  It’s not Roddick, Blake, or even Isner.  WHERE ARE YOU GUYS!!!!
