The Swatch Group has recently released a line of watches designed specifically for the villains of the James Bond Series. I am a huge aficionado of James Bond cinema, and wanted to discuss the highlights of the aforementioned collection. For a complete list of available 007 watches from Swatch, please visit the following LINK.
Strangely enough, Swatch decided not to feature the main villain in a lot of their watches, deciding to design a watch around the secondary villain. A few examples of this are the watches for Blofeld’s Cat (You Only Live Twice), Wint and Kidd (Diamonds are Forever) and Xenia Onatopp (GoldenEye). The watches all feature the 007 logo branded on the band, and are moderately priced between $60.00 and $260.00. Although all of the watches are well designed, I would only be caught wearing a few. (Perhaps collecting the rest)
-GOLDFINGER (Odd Job)
Goldfinger continues to be my favorite Bond flick, and seems to set itself further and further apart from the competition each time I watch it. Sean Connery puts forth his best performance and with henchmen like GoldFinger and Odd Job, it ranks on the top.
The corresponding watch is a typical gold fashioned Men’s watch with a solid metal band, as well as six total dials. Nothing special here, just an old-fashioned circular face, with a 007 tattooed on the clasp.
-THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN (Scaramanga)
Sticking with the gold trend, Roger Moore squares off against the greatest assassin in a Bond film, Scaramanga. With the help of his short sidekick Nick Nack, Scramanga attempts build a laser that can destroy anything in its path. Ultimately the showdown results in Bond’s favor which proves once again, nobody does it better than Bond.
The watch designed by Swatch has a leather imitation band with gold ridges on each side, just before reaching the face. Again, it’s a classical circular face with six total dials. The black and gold fit together nicely and the price makes it even more attractive. (MSRP $129.99)
-MOONRAKER (Hugo Drax)
Although Moonraker is not the greatest of Roger Moore Bond movies, (In my humble opinion) Hugo Drax is an excellent Villain. With the help of Jaws, his unique plan is to take over the world! Developing a satellite that will eradicate the human race, Hugo gets all 1940’s Germany on the world and attempts to create a super human race. Enter James Bond to save the day.
This watch is much simpler in design than the previous two, having only four dials on the circular face. A stylistic silver and black finish, the band is simple steel all the way around, that closes with a typical clasp.
If you haven’t guessed by now, old school, simple circular faces is what I’m all about.
