Top Video Monday – Charlie Daniels Band / Devil Went Down To Georgia

So I’m finally back from my Christmas vacay and what do you know… it’s time for Top Video Monday once again. I wasn’t planning on a Top Video Monday today as pretty much the last post was a Top Video Monday but when me and Mr. Smith saw a ‘believe it or not’ Geico commercial with Charlie Daniels in it and I just couldn’t resist. Great publicity for Charlie Daniels though.

This song was written, performed and released by the Charlie Daniels Band in 1979 on their Million Mile Reflections album. The song tells the story of the devil, who comes to Georgia looking for souls and is willing to make a deal. The devil runs to a skillful guy named Johnny and challenges him to a fiddle-off for his soul. However if Johnny wins, he will receive a golden fiddle from the devil himself. Johnny indeed won and welcomed the devil to come back anytime for a rematch.

Top Video Monday – Beyonce / Sweet Dreams

This is definitely one of those songs that make you get up and dance. And the video… well it’s a typical Beyonce video. All about Beyonce, her crazy outfits, her three person dance group and The regular bootie punch and full body dry heave. Gotta love Beyonce. Oh and I think I heard on the radio today that her parents are getting a divorce. How sad.

Top Video Monday – Oren Lavie / Her Morning Elegance

I’m Back!!! Well at least for now. Haven’t been in the mood to right lately. Sorry. But Today I bring you the probably forgotten Top Video Monday. The song is called Her Morning Elegance and is sung by Israeli singer, songwriter, playwright and theatre director – Oren Lavie. The music Video is by all means pretty cool and might give you a certain calming feeling. Enjoy!

New Hot Video: Rihanna – The Wait Is Over

A new song by Rihanna from her newly released album “Russian Roulette”, was written by Ne-Yo and Rihanna and produced by Ne-Yo and Chuck Harmony. This is the first piece of music she has released since the alleged Chris Brown attack (Who has also just released a new album). Personally I liked her a lot better when she first joined the music industry, when she had long hair and did not look like she worshiped Satan in her basement (Not that there is anything wrong with that). Her hair, fashion and attitude have gone down the drain so I hope her music hasn’t.

Top Video Monday – Gary Jules (Tears For Fears) / Mad World

The Original Song, Mad world, is a song by the British band Tears for Fears, written by Roland Orzabal and sung by bassist Curt Smith. This was their first song to hit the UK charts in November 1982 and an international success by 1983.  20 years later the song was redone into a more ballad like song by composers Michael Andrews and Gary Jules for the movie soundtrack of Donnie Darko. While Tears For Fears used various synthesizers and percussion instruments, the Andrews/Jules version was stripped down to a set of piano chords, a cello and a vocoder on the chorus.

Since Donnie Darko, the song has been featured in many musical moments on shows like Smallville, Cold Case, Las Vegas, Without a Trace, ER, Nip/Tuck, CSI, Third Watch and many more. It is the perfect sad moment song. Though many people have their own interpretation for the meaning of the words, I think it’s all about feeling like your all alone in the world. I chose this video because sometimes the best video is the one that shows nothing but the words themselves. Instead of telling you exactly what the words suppose to mean, you get to decide for yourself, paint your own picture. What do the words mean to you?

Top Video Monday – Tina Turner / Proud Mary

Since I haven’t given you a top video in a few weeks, thought I’d come back with something nice… and rough… :-)

This weeks Top Video Monday is the one and only Tina Turner singing and performing “Proud Mary”! Her revolutionary dance moves and incredible singing has put her at the spot light for 50 years. I have been jamming to this song at work non stop for the last few days… puts you in a great mood! Enjoy…

Top Video Monday – Mariah Carey / Always Be My Baby

I know I missed last weeks Top Video Monday but I’ve been so busy with work that I’m a little behind on my site duties. My bad! However this weeks video is one of my favorite songs.

It’s no secret that Mariah Carey is one of the top female performers of all times and of course one of my favorites as I like her early work a lot more then what she does now.  As I’m sure you already know from the title, this weeks video is Mariah Carey’s  “Always Be My Baby”. The song was released in 1996 and became Carey’s eleventh number 1 single on the Billboard Hot 100 as well as the most-played song in 1996. Enjoy…

Top Video Monday – Michael Jackson / You Are Not Alone

This was a tough week for the world of music, dance and entertainment all together. Michael Jackson, The King of Pop, passed away but his revolutionary music and dance will never be forgotten.  It’s no coincidence that Michael Jackson was already acknowledged as a Top Video member, so I’m giving him to you again as a tribute.
My pick for this week is “You Are Not Alone”, one of those songs that just touches your heart. You Are Not Alone was released in August 1995 as a part of the “History” album, later certified as a platinum single, received a Grammy nomination and it holds a Guinness World Record as the first song in the 37 year history of the Billboard Hot 100 to debut at number one.
The video displays Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie Presley (Whom he married in 1994) frolicking practically naked in a temple and a second scene of Michael Jackson performing to an empty hall. I think this video shows Michael in a vulnerable and very personal light and is the perfect song to remember him by.

Top Video Monday – Janet Jackson / If

I know I have been bringing you a lot of oldies (Some older then others) but I have officially come to a conclusion – They don’t make them like they used to anymore.

This weeks video (As you probably guessed from the title) is IF by Janet Jackson, which was released in 1993 from her fifth album “Janet”. The video is set in an exclusive club in Asia, where entrance can only be gained with the password “if”. Inside the club, a sexually frustrated Janet Jackson performs a sexy dance (At a sexy party… lol) with some shady characters, while fantasizing about a particular somebody and all the things she is going to do to him.

“If” peaked at number four on the Billboard Hot 100 and won the 1994 MTV Video Music Award for Best Female Video. It also won a 1994 Billboard Music Award for Dance Clip of the Year. The dance routine is quite awesome and has been copied by many dance teams and events, including my college dance team.

Interesting fact: The track “If” contains a sample from Diana Ross & The Supremes 1969 song “Someday We’ll Be Together”.
