Let It Be is a song by the legendary band, The Beatles, that was written by Paul McCartney and released on March 6th, 1970 as a single. The single reached number one in Germany, Italy, Australia, Switzerland, New Zealand, Norway and the United States and number two in the United Kingdom. It was the last single released by The Beatles while the band was still officially considered together.
The video might not be very extravagant but I like that it shows The Beatles at their best, creating music together and just hanging out. It even shows John Lennon and Yoko Ono together and all right before they finally broke up. This is a very special song.
O-M-G I love this song so much i want to scream it from the roof tops. I am so happy that Eminem is back from hibernation and is delivering these amazing songs once again. I always thought he was a genius, an artist like him comes around very rarely. I have been addicted to I love The Way You Lie since it came out on the radio and now I’m completely stocked for the video. It’s fantastic!
Dominic Monaghan (Lost and Flash Forward) and Megan Fox (Transformers) actually make a pretty hot couple. Between Eminem, Rihanna, Dominic, Megan and a burning house, This video can’t get any hotter.
Released in 1986, Addicted to Love became immensely popular, partly due to the music video itself. Right after it’s release, Addicted to Love topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart, the Billboard Top Rock Tracks chart as well as the UK Singles Chart. The song was supposed to be a duet with Chaka Khan but due to label conflicts that did not happen.
The music video shows Robert Palmer as the lead singer and a group of models with pale skin, heavy makeup and dark hair as his backups. The models in the video are (from left to right) Patty Kelly, Julie Pankhurst, Mak Gilchrist and Julia Bolino with Kathy Davies on drums. In an interview with Q Magazine, one of the models said: “We were meant to look and “act” like showroom mannequins. The director got us tipsy on a bottle of wine but as we were having our make-up retouched, I lost my balance and knocked the top of my guitar into the back of Robert’s head, and his face hit the microphone.”
On one of VH1′s most hilarious shows, Pop-up Video, the video trivia mentioned that a musician was hired to teach the models basic guitar fingering techniques, but gave up after about an hour and left. Addicted to Love pretty much put Robert Palmer on the map and is one of the most famous videos to date. Enjoy.
The song you know as “99 Red Balloons” from the epic comedy Wedding Crashers, is actually a german protest song called “99 Luftballoons”. After Being released in West Germany is 1983, Luftballoons immediately reached the #1 spot that year. Later released in the UK in 1984, the English version topped the UK Singles Chart and the German version made it to #2 on the American Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Contrary to popular belief Luftballoons does not translate into red balloons, this mistake was made by Amrican DJ’s when the song first came out. A Luftballoon is a colorful toy balloon however the song tells the story of of 99 balloons floating into the air, triggering a nuclear reaction by military forces. Nena never had another hit single after Luftballoons and is considered to be a very successful one hit wonder artist.
Performed by rock band “The Kinks” and written by their lead singer Ray Davies, it didn’t take long till the hit song, You Really Got Me, reached number 1 on the UK singles chart. You Really Got Me came out on August 4, 1964 and established The Kinks as one of the U.S. breakthrough British hits. If you think it was easy to make this hit, you’re dead wrong. It took The Kinks several recordings in different styles, to get to the hit that put them on the map.
You Really Got Me became so popular that a whole lot of bands wanted to record their own version. New Zealand blues-rock band The Human Instinct, the band Radio Cult, the band Oingo Boingo and the hard rock band Van Halen all wanted their own You Really Got Me. The song also appeared in some Nissan car commercials, karaoke video games Revolution and Guitar Hero II as well as the movie Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel.
The video below is an original performance by The Kinks in 1964, singing the hit song You Really Got Me. Enjoy.
From the album “The Miseducation of Lauren Hill” by of course Lauren Hill, Doo Wop (That Thing) was released on October 27, 1998. Doo Wop the 10th single to debut at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and it stayed there for two weeks in the fall of 1998. The hit song also won two Grammy Awards the following February.
The reason I really love this video is because of the unique display of differences and similarities it shows between the 90′s and the 60′s, from dance moves to clothes. The video is a split screen of a block party going on in these two interesting eras and is all about Lauren Hill warning the men and women, about the struggles of being men and women in both generations. Doo Wop (That Thing was filmed in Washington Heights, Manhattan in the mid 90′s and shows Lauren Hill six months pregnant.
American pop band The Beach Boys, came out with Wouldn’t It Be Nice on July 11, 1966 as part of their “Pet Sounds” album. Composer and producer of the song, Brian Wilson, stated that the song is all about the frustrations of youth, “What you can’t have, what you really want and what you have to wait for”. Wilson even used the title of the song for the title of his autobiography. The Beach Boys, who formed in 1961, were pretty much the icon of a Southern California youth culture of cars, surfing, and romance. The Beach Boys are also known for hits like California Girls, Kokomo, I Get Around, Surfin’ USA, Barbara Ann and many more.
The first time I ever heard this song was in the movie 50 First Dates with Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. In the movie, after Barrymore got in a car accident, she couldn’t remember any thing past the accident and is forced to relive that same day over and over again while the rest of the world moves on with their lives. Once she catches the eye of Adam Sandler, he is hell bent on being with her and making her fall in love with him everyday as if it was the first. Barrymore sings the song Wouldn’t It Be Nice only on the days that she meets Sandler and that is how every one figures out that she’s starting to remember him. How romantic.
The Cloud Room is an American band based in Brooklyn, New York founded in the year 2000. Their self titled album was released in 2005 and contains the hit song “Hey Now Now” later to be named as a top ten single of the year by Rolling Stone magazine. In 2007, The Cloud Room became the first unsigned band to be used in an international ad campaign when Pepsi used “Hey Now Now” in a Frédéric Planchon-directed spot titled “Destinies” and featuring Ronaldinho.
I first heard this song in a commercial, I don’t know for what and I don’t think it was the Pepsi commercial because I just watched it and it didn’t look familiar. I don’t know why but the song makes me smile even before listening to the words just by listening to the melody. The music video however is very interesting because it has a theme and makes you want to keep watching, just to see what happens. Enjoy!
The Who is an English rock band formed in 1964, who’s band members consist of Roger Daltrey (Vocalist), Pete Townshend (Guitarist), John Entwistle (Bassist) and Keith Moon (Drummer). The Who have sold about 100 million records and have charted 27 top forty singles in the United States and United Kingdom with 17 top ten albums including 18 Gold, 12 Platinum and 5 Multi-Platinum album awards in the United States alone. They even performed at such memorable concerts like the “Monterey Pop”and “Woodstock”.
The Who began their road to fame in the UK with a series of top ten hit singles, boosted in part by pirate radio stations. My Generation was their official debut album in the UK in 1965 and in the US in 1966. The album also contained a song called “My Generation” which became so popular, it was named the 11th greatest song by Rolling Stone magazine on their list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
I’ve been familiar with The Who for a long time but the first time I heard this song, I heard it covered in French by Chapeaumelon and appeared on the soundtrack of the 2004 film EuroTrip. And let’s face it, that film is fantastic. The video is The Who introducing themselves and performing the hit song on some talk show in the 60′s. Enjoy.
9 to 5 was written and performed by country singer Dolly Parton, for the 1980 comedy Nine to Five, starring Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin and Parton, in her film debut. The film’s title song gave Parton four Grammy Award nominations and an Academy Award nomination, winning her the awards for “Best Country Vocal Performance, Female” and “Best Country Song”. The song was also released as a single in November 1980 and by 1981 reached #1 on both the Billboard Hot 100 and the Billboard Country Chart as well as two Canadian charts.
The catchy song became something of an anthem for office workers around the U.S. that were very happy their feelings were finally put into public words. The song and film actually owe their titles to an organization founded in 1973 with the aim of bringing better treatment for women in the workplace. The video itself is a collection of Dolly Parton scenes from the movie, as well as her singing in the background. I have actually never seen the movie but it looks pretty funny from the clips. Enjoy.
