2010 Emmy Fashion Best and Worst Dressed

Another Emmy award show has come and gone and to be completely honest with you, I was pretty disappointed. I don’t remember if I watched it last year so I might not have anything to compare it to but it was really boring. The opening show was the best part in my book – they took Jimmy Fallon (Who hosted the show), gleeks – Lea Michele, Corey Monteith, Chris Colfer, Amber Riley and Jane Lynch, Tina Fey from 30 Rock, The Soup’s Joel McHale, Jorge Garcia (Hurley from Lost), Mother of 8 Kate Gosselin and last but not least Nina Dobrev from Vampire Diaries (Love her) – and made them sing and dance – How freaking fantastic was that?

And then the big snore began. But at least we have Fashion to talk about right? Eh. As you will see below there were a lot more misses then hits and even the hits weren’t that jaw dropping gorgeous. So lets start with the best dressed shall we… Taking the #1 place in my book is as always Lea Michele, this girl never disappoints at an award show.

The theme of this award show was navy blue in the lead and white close behind. Lea Michele, Jayma Mays, Jane Krakowski, Padma Lakshmi and Jane Lynch (Although they ended up on the other side of this pretty train) were all sporting this fabulous color. While Kim Kardashian, Rose Byrne, Amber Riley, Elisabeth Moss, Giuliana Rancic, Nina Dobrev, Mariska Hargitay and Claire Danes opted out for the classic white and it’s many shades.

Now lets move on to the worst dressed… The absolute worst was Mindy Kaling from the office. I do not know what that girl was thinking but she looks like she is going to her very own 80′s prom. Newly wed Anna Paquin who always dresses to impress, did not bring it to the Emmy’s. Her Alexander McQueen black satin frock with the gold gladiator shoulders was not working at all and covered up that hot body of hers. Nina Dobrev who I absolutely adore on Vampire Diaries seemed to channel her alter ego Katherine and looked the part in her Victorian one shoulder dress with a leg slit and way too much lace.

Mariska Hargitay looked like she was wearing a wedding dress (Seriously people, it’s a thin line, don’t cross it), Christina Hendricks from Mad Men… gosh what can you say about this one… her red hair and fair skin in a pastel purple gown with feathers; someone really needs to get in there and smack her around a bit because this is not the first time she put her giant gazoongas in an awful outfit and took them for a walk. As much as I love Emily Deschanel, she looks like she was eaten by a giant purple flower. Kerri Russell who is working on a come back with Amy Pohler’s husband needs to bring in Betty White to conduct an Easter egg hunt because those little nubs are in the wrong dress. Now if we put Christina Hendricks in that dress (Since she has the right stuff to fill it out) and change the color to black, she’d look pretty damn good. The Hills’ Lo Bosworth looks like she is going to a PTA meeting and  last but not least, Sofia Vergara and Naya Rivera looked like they robbed the Miss Universe pageant.

Fashion Limelight: Lea Michele

As opposed to her argyle sweaters and pleated skirts on Glee, Lea Michele hit the fashion world by storm.  Even though Michele is a teeny weeny at only 5 feet 2 inches, she knows how to dress for her body and that is one of the most important things when it comes to fashion. Fashion reflects the person, and Lea’s style is fun, classy and age appropriate. She may not have been in the limelight for that long, but she has definitely made the best of it so far. I love everything she wears… she just looks fantastic. Of course it doesn’t hurt to be beautiful and talented too.

Lea Michele also has nine tattoos.  Two music notes from Bohemian Rhapsody on her left shoulder,  a gold star representing her Glee character Rachel Berry on her left wrist,  a cross and writing on her left rib cage, a bird on the left hip, “Imagine” on her left foot,  a butterfly on her right foot and right back hip area and an “I Believe” on her right wrist. I have a feeling Lea Michele is going to be around for a while and I can’t wait to see what she is going to wear next.

Sexy Summer Hairstyles Are Here!

Are you ready for summer ladies? More importantly, is your hair ready for summer? Brought to you by Cosmopolitan, I would like to introduce the hottest summer hairstyles on this side of the Mississippi. To quote the lovely magazine: “These romantic styles don’t require much time or squeaky-clean strands”.  Well said Cosmo.  I for one don’t have time or squeaky clean strands. I’m one of those girls who washes their hair every other day because my hair actually needs those oils it develops when it’s not freshly washed. So that second day, I always find interesting ways to put my hair in so it doesn’t look grungy.  These laid back hairstyles are fantastically perfect.

1. The Flirty Fishtail Braid – This is the perfect beach hair braid. Why? The salty air actually gives your hair a certain texture which gives your hair those sun kissed  beachy strands (I always wondered why that happens) and makes your hair perfect for braiding.  If your hair is not within salty air breathing distance, Cosmo recommends using a sea salt spray on damp hair and letting it air dry.  Try David Babaii for WildAid Beach Spray – 6.6 oz.

Next step, fishtail braid: First divide your hair in half and hold the left and right sides in each hand. Grab a half-inch section from the outside of the right side and add it to the inside of the left side. Repeat with a piece from the outside of the left side, adding it to the inside of the right side. Continue switching pieces until you run out of hair and secure with an elastic. Position the braid over your shoulder (Of your choosing) then tug out a few pieces around your face for a breezy effect (or just let the wind do its thing).

2. The Figure Eight Bun – If you’re one of those girls who likes to twist your hair in a casual bun and stick a pencil in it when your bored at work, this is the hairstyle for you. A pencil might not always be appropriate though, so when you need a quick classy but sassy do, try this one on for size. Make a low ponytail, leaving a few pieces loose around your face. Twist the length of your hair, wrap it in a figure-eight, push it up against the back of your head and tuck the ends into the loop you’ve just made. Insert a few hairpins or tiny barrettes to secure your locks all in place and finish with some lightweight hair spray for extra hold. Cosmo likes Paul Mitchell Express Style Worked Up 11oz.

3. Over The Shoulder Curls – Now this is probably the easiest hairstyle to do and I don’t just mean easy for professionals, I mean easy for you. All you have to do is work in some oil into your damp hair, Cosmo’s pick: Sally Hershberger Genius Spray Wax – 3.5 oz.
Then twist strands of  hair into wavy locks and lay all your hair on one shoulder. To secure the hair on your shoulder while it dries, you can stick a few bobby pins in it. When you are ready to let it loose, take out the pins and let your locks fly.

4. Swept Up Sexy – This is literally the Snookie of all hairstyles and it won’t work if you hair is too clean. If your hair is clean, the strands will slide right down but if your hair is more oily and grungy, it will hold better. However, if you want to work the style on clean hair, try Sexy Hair Organics Volumizing Mousse (5.1 oz.). Take a comb and tease your strands in order to build volume. Part your hair on the side and sweep back the top half of your hair. Push the sweeped section up slightly to form a small bump and secure with bobby pins. Slightly brush your strands  but don’t make it perfect, it should look a little messy.

Kardashian Sisters Go Nude For Dash Miami

Kardashian-air-brush

If Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian were not making waives before, they definitely are now. After opening up the Miami base for their clothing boutique Dash in May of last year, Kourtney and Khloe were partying it up in the sunshine state and filming their spin off show Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami. Since then, Khloe married Lakers star Lamar Odom and Kourtney had a baby with long time on-and-off boy toy Scott Disick after getting preggers in none other then good ole’ Miami.

Now, the Kardashian sisters are back to revamp Dash Miami and are literally putting their own patooties on the line. To promote their new boutique make over, Kortney, Khloe and two new Dash dolls named Katy and Jessica were airbrushed in black, with a big Dash logo on their naked bodies. Go DASH!!!

Unfortunately, no matter how naked the girls get, it’s not going to make their store any better or the clothes any cuter. Obviously, a lot is expected from the Kardashians sisters since they are so popular, but I have heard nothing but bad reviews.

Fashion Limelight: Jennifer Aniston

Jennifer Joanna Aniston, daughter to a successful Soap Opera star named John Aniston, who you might know as Victor Kiriakis from Days Of Our Lives. Jennifer was born in California and raised in New York City which is portrayed in her fashion style perfectly; a California girl with the style and sophistication of a native New Yorker. Jennifer is of Greek, Scottish and Italian descent but it’s pretty clear that her Italian roots are the most present in her choice of fashion. Jen loves the classic sophisticated look and based on the pictures below, it’s not hard to figure out that her favorite designer is none other than Valentino.

Want to dress like Jennifer Aniston? No problem. Check out the Valentino link above as it will take you to a site called Raffaello-Network.com,  where you can browse through top designers like Valentino, as well as Gucci, Prada, Fendi and many more. Don’t have the big bucks to spend on original Valentino? Not a problem either. Check this “How To” guide on eHow for how to dress like Jennifer Aniston without emptying out your bank account.

Trendy Fashion Under $25 at Pinkice.com

After getting a great response to my first PinkIce.com review, I decided to go back to the site and fish out a few new affordable and trendy favorites. Just to reiterate the details of the site’s program (Just in case you don’t click on the link above), PinkIce.com originated in Orange County, California and is hell bent on bringing the Orange County fashion to the rest of the world. They also have something called Pink points & Ice points.

Pink points are accumulated  simply by shopping, 5% of each purchase is converted into Pink points and are added to your account 30 days after the shipping date, so you can’t cheat and return the clothes just to get the points. Pink points are calculated by the subtotal of your purchases (excluding tax and shipping charges) and they expire within 1 year of purchase if they are not used. Ice Points on the other hand are even easier to get, all you have to do is refer a friend to register for a Pink Ice account and you will receive 5% of their purchase every time they shop. For full details on Pink Ice’s terms and conditions check out the info page.

I did pick out a few affordable pieces under $25.00 but for all the big spenders out there, don’t worry, there are more expensive pieces for your shopping pleasures. And last but not least all purchases over $75 ship for FREE.

Heather Locklear’s Daughter Strutting Her Stuff On The Runway

ava-samboraAva Sambora, She is only 12 years-old, but with parents like Actress Heather Locklear and Bon Jovi rock star Richie Sambora, It’s hard to believe that she would stay hidden for long. Ava kicked off L.A. Fashion Week, making her modeling debut in the White Trash Beautiful show, designed by papa Sambora and designer Nikki Lund. Richie unfortunately could not make it to the show due to scheduling conflicts, but mommy Locklear was sitting front and center with Lund, gushing over daughter and taking pictures on her phone.

As excited as Heather Locklear was, that did not stop her from being the worrying mother that she is, telling PEOPLE:

“And the minute she’s done I’m going to grab her and wipe off her makeup and get her into her pjs.”

Funny enough, Ava Sambora rocked the runway in none other than Bon Jovi’s “Living on a Prayer” in four edgy outfits.

82nd Academy Awards Worst Dressed

You didn’t think I would really let the Oscars rest without announcing the worst dressed did you? Well, I’m not. I did want to watch the Fashion police before I made my final decision to see if we agree but unfortunately we do not. Don’t get me wrong, their worst dressed is on my list as well (Ahm.. Charlize Theron) but I don’t think that she was the worst of the worst. So let’s get down to business and start going down the line:

Sarah Jessica Parker, I’m sorry honey but you look like a tampon. And not just a regular tampon, one of those silky gentle glide ones. Diane Kruger totally missed the target this time, and by target I mean chicken coup. Vera Farmiga, you may have starred aside one of Hollywood’s leading men, but didn’t stop you from wrapping a giant fuchsia table cloth around you did it. Oh Zoe Saldana in Givenchy couture, you make me so sad. I really really like you but you look like giant purple piniata full of sparkles and rainbows. Maggie Gyllenhaal is getting ready to eat some sushi and Charlize Theron got two cinnabuns on her boobies (Thanks for that Joan).

Worst-dressed-oscars-2010

Here’s another thing I wanted to mention. Dear celebrities, please make sure you call each other and verify what everyone’s wearing before you show up looking like this… Thank you.

Oscars-look-alikes

I really really like Amanda Seyfried (Mostly due to Dear John, thank you for making me cry my eyes out) but both her and Jennifer Lopez (Which by the way was a best dressed nominee on Fashion Police) looked like they were wearing that cellophane stuff, you know the stuff you wrap your valuables in when you move. Oh and Mariah Carey and Gabourey Sidibe. It’s not that they looked bad, it’s just that they didn’t look that great. Granted Gaby looks the best she has ever looked in her porn “money dress” but I could definitely go without Mariah’s ‘Picked it at up at Ross on my way here’ dress. You’re not that skinny any more girl, deal with it.

2010 Oscars Handsome Fellas

the-guysI know I always write only about what the girls are wearing. What can I say, I am a girl, and when I see pretty dresses my eyes get really wide and I start to drool a little bit. So this time I would like to show you exactly why I never write about the guys.

The picture to the left here, is the reason why. BORING! Some of the hottest stars like Chris Pine, Jake Gyllenhaal, Ryan Reynolds, Taylor Lautner, Bradley Cooper and Gerard Butler showed up sporting a black tux with a black bow tie. Common people… you have billion of dollars and you can’t get anymore creative than a black tux and a black bow-tie?

And they weren’t the only ones. Other bow-tie sporting dudes include George Clooney, Matt Damon, Robin Thicke, Jason Bateman and Tom Ford. Yes there might have been some individuals that broke the bow-tie barrier and wore a skinny tie but that just wasn’t enough to revive the lack of color at this year’s Academy Awards.

The only guy that somewhat surprised was Robert Downey Jr. when he showed up with a black tux, a turquoise bow-tie, sneakers and blue see through shades. Good one, but not very appropriate.
