I know I always write only about what the girls are wearing. What can I say, I am a girl, and when I see pretty dresses my eyes get really wide and I start to drool a little bit. So this time I would like to show you exactly why I never write about the guys.
The picture to the left here, is the reason why. BORING! Some of the hottest stars like Chris Pine, Jake Gyllenhaal, Ryan Reynolds, Taylor Lautner, Bradley Cooper and Gerard Butler showed up sporting a black tux with a black bow tie. Common people… you have billion of dollars and you can’t get anymore creative than a black tux and a black bow-tie?
And they weren’t the only ones. Other bow-tie sporting dudes include George Clooney, Matt Damon, Robin Thicke, Jason Bateman and Tom Ford. Yes there might have been some individuals that broke the bow-tie barrier and wore a skinny tie but that just wasn’t enough to revive the lack of color at this year’s Academy Awards.
The only guy that somewhat surprised was Robert Downey Jr. when he showed up with a black tux, a turquoise bow-tie, sneakers and blue see through shades. Good one, but not very appropriate.
Now this is my favorite part of an Award Show! Who wore what, who wore it best and who wore it worst is in some cases more important than who won. The Academy Awards is probably the most important of the award shows and it’s very important to look classy, sassy and fabulous. The theme of the night was definitely all about the sparkle and the flow.
From seasoned actresses like Demi Moore in Atelier Versace, Penelope Cruz in Donna Karan couture, Cameron Diaz in Oscar de la Renta, Elizabeth Banks in Versace and Rachel McAdams in Elie Saab Haute couture, to the younger players on the field like Kristen Stewart in Monique Lhuillier (Finally she looks stunning… I was getting a little worried with her funky little outfits), Miley Cyrus in Jenny Packham and Anna Kendrick in Elie Saab, all looked absolutely phenomenal. But who took the cake? That will be the crowd favorite, Sandra Bullock, who also picked up a little gold man for Best Leading Actress in The Blind Side. Bullock’s beaded Marchesa gown won over the Academy and the Fashion Police in both elegance and and glam.
The Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars, is not only known for it’s importance and the life long statement “I’d like to thank the Academy”, but also for it’s funny. And this year, none other than Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin brought the funny. The show started off with our favorite mini doctor, Neil Patrick Harris, singing and dancing his little heart out with two half naked rockettes.
Over the course of the night, the hosts made sure they put their two cents in and I was sitting with the laptop and writing it all down. Here are some of their Gems:
Steve: “There’s Damn Helen Mirren”… Alec: “That’s dame Helen Mirren”
Alec about Woody Harrelson: “He is sooo high!”
“There’s James Cameron” – ‘Both put on 3D glasses’
Steve: “Inglorious bastards’ Christoph Waltz is a Nazi obsessed with finding Jews – Well here is the motherload”
Steve: “The Academy awards… the best night in Hollywood since last night”
Alec: “Hey Feriss… is this your day off???”
What else happened? The star of Precious, Gabourey Sidibe, told Ryan Seacrest “If Fashion was Porn… this dress is the money job!”… The only time that Mr. Smith dramatically inhaled was when they showed the horror movie slide… and George Clooney was clearly pissed off about something all night.
Fashion week has always been a mecca for celebrities to come and scope out the latest fashion. Of course the second best part of fashion week is mingling with all their celebrity buddies. Stars from all facets of the industry were there and here are some hot shots of fashion week’s VIP’s.
Some of the stars include CW stars AnnaLynne McCord, Jessica Szohr, Michelle Trachtenberg, Shantel VanSanten, Chase Crawford, Matthew Settle & Kelly Rutherford. Some great movie stars like Mena Suvari, Liv Tyler, Jared Letto, Ryan Phillippe, Kellan Lutz, Kristen Bell, Susan Sarandon, Demi Moore & Brooke Shields. Even some music stars like Natasha Bedingfield, John Legend, Chris Brown, Faith Hill, Lady Gaga and Cyndi Lauper came out to play.
Keeping Up With the Kardashians star, Kim Kardashian, is officially here. Miss Kardashian was actually supposed to arrive last night, but due to some mechanical problems with the plane, Kim had to change planes and officially arrived in Miami this afternoon. Kim is in town to support her football star boyfriend, Reggie Bush, who plays for The New Orléans Saints this Sunday on Superbowl night.
Kim is very happy to be in sunny Miami, tweeting “Going to be such a fun week!”, and even mentioned that Miami so beautiful, she might have to get a little place of her own here.
The funny thing is, that E!’s other sweetheart, Kendra Wilkinson, is going to be rooting for her football star boyfriend, Hank Baskett, who is playing for the Indianapolis Cults. Now Mr. Smith is saying that Hank Baskett will probably not be playing since he had only participated in like 4 plays this year, but hey you never know.
What am I excited about? Kim Kardashian’s fabulous thigh length boots. Talk about F me boots. Miss KK is looking hot, even when she just steps off the plane. Jealous.
Now Reggie has to win. Even though Mr. Smith is routing for Indianapolis.
This is more than just the Superbowl people… this is battle of the E! reality shows.
Unlike the other serious award shows, like the Golden Globes and the SAG Awards, The Grammy’s are all about fun, fun, fun. And this year, it was all about legs, legs, legs! The Grammy’s is the one award show you can get loose, play with your outfit and make it totally Rock&Role. Our leading ladies for this evening were Miley Cyrus in a rocker teal Hervé Léger by Max Azria dress, Glee star Lea Michelle (Of Course) in a Romona Keveza one shoulder frock with a fun petal skirt, Ke$ha in a gold 20’s flapper dress, Fergie in a blue mini by Emilio Pucci and Heidi Klum in a gold sequins Emilio Pucci.
So who wins best dressed??? Well to me it’s a tie between Lea Michelle and Miley Cyrus. They both wore dresses that are perfect for them and their individual personality so it’s really tough to pick one. The bigger question is who wins best legs! And the answer is Lea Michele hands down. Even Jay Manuel said that the only crime Lea Michelle committed was hiding those amazing legs. I gotta admit, I think I’m developing a little girl crush on Lea Michele.
The 16th Annual Screen Actors Guild aired last night, and the winners were… less than surprising. Almost all the people that won the Golden Globes, won an Actor. Kinda boring really. The one thing that wasn’t boring was the fashion. Colors, colors and more colors. The stars were pouring in the hottest and brightest dresses I have ever seen. One gal totally impressed me once again, a newby to the red carpet, Lea Michele from Glee, looked absolutely amazing in an emerald green Malandrino gown. She is once again my #1. A close second was my favorite funny lady, Kate Hudson, in an Emilio Pucci sleek and sexy dress.
My runners up were Diane Kruger in a mustard gown by Jason Wu, Julie Benz (Darla from Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Angel) in a beautiful plum dress, E! reporter Julianna Rancic in a flowing orange gown, Up In The Air’s Anna Kendrick in an orchid purple Alberta Ferretti gown, Mariska Hargitay (Olivia Benson from Law & Order SVU) in a fun pink dress and Glee’s Quin, Dianna Agron, in a classy white gown.
Did Kyra Sedgwick’s dress at the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards last night look a little familiar yo you? Well you’re not alone. Kyra was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series for The Closer but lost out to Julianna Margulies for The Good Wife. Sedgwick’s hubby, Kevin Bacon, however did win Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries for Taking Chance.
Kyra wore a (listen carefully) white Vera Wang mermaid style dress, with a dark belt sash and a huge jewel broach on her waist. Sound familiar? Khloe Kardashian wore almost the exact same dress on her September 27, 2009 wedding to NBA star Lamar Odom. Do you think Kyra made a big no-no by wearing this wedding dress look-alike? In terms of fashion, The 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards were somewhat mellow. Nothing too shocking and nothing too amazing. The dominating color was black, and as Joan Rivers said on the Golden Globes Fashion Police… “This year, black is the new black”. Most women were wearing mostly black and pastels with a random hard purple and fuchsia. It’s no surprise that my picks for the best dressed ladies are all wearing black, gold and silver; true party clothes.
The first lady on the list is one of my new favorites… Anna Paquin. Anna was nominated for two globes on behalf of True Blood and one for a different movie but unfortunately did not receive any of them. She was however one of the best dressed starlets on the carpet. In a golden Stella McCartney with a classy and sexy neck plunge (Unlike Mariah Carey), Paquin looked stunning with her shiny blond hair.
Next up, we have my girl Jennifer Aniston. Looking hot and classy in a black Valentino gown with very long slit, Ferragamo sandals and Fred Leighton jewels. You know I would’ve actually enjoyed it if she had to give that Inglorious Bastards award to Brad Pitt when she was presenting with Hottie Mchotterson Gerard Butler (Who she apparently got pretty cozy with behind the scenes), just to see the look on his face (And Angie’s).
Now what can you say about Halle Berry? This vixen did it once again. Can you believe that she is in her 40’s and already had a kid? Halle is wearing a black Kaufman Franco gown with gold lace insets and a cut-out back, along with Kimberly McDonald and Irit Designs earrings and bracelets. She looks Berry fantastic!
A new lady to the red carpet, Olivia Wilde, made a very good choice with her wardrobe. The House star looks very sexy in a plunging, metallic beaded Gucci gown with Tiffany & Co. jewels, a Judith Leiber clutch and Jimmy Choo sandals. She didn’t win any golden globes but she definitely made everyone’s best dressed list.
And the winner is… Lea Michele. Ok so I might be a little biased because I do love her and I think she is fantastic. This is Lea’s first red carpet appearance with the big boys and she knew she had to make a splash. This might not have been a favorite with the fashion judges but in my book she is #1. The girl is 23, and she was nominated for a golden globe for a show that’s only in it’s very first season. If I was her (I wish) I would wear the biggest fairytale dress I could find. This was the first dress the Glee star tried on, and it is an Oscar de la Renta gown with Chopard emerald and diamond jewelry. Now this is a dress to win an award in!
Being fashion forward is most definitely one of the top priorities for women everywhere but when you’re a celebrity it’s THE priority. Though most of them try, it’s very rare that some of them succeed. This fashion face off however is a long time coming… the battle of the little black dress (Long sleeve edition). I am a huge fan of the little black dress and I think one of these starlets have really pulled it off. Who’s your pick?
