2010 Emmy Fashion Best and Worst Dressed

Another Emmy award show has come and gone and to be completely honest with you, I was pretty disappointed. I don’t remember if I watched it last year so I might not have anything to compare it to but it was really boring. The opening show was the best part in my book – they took Jimmy Fallon (Who hosted the show), gleeks – Lea Michele, Corey Monteith, Chris Colfer, Amber Riley and Jane Lynch, Tina Fey from 30 Rock, The Soup’s Joel McHale, Jorge Garcia (Hurley from Lost), Mother of 8 Kate Gosselin and last but not least Nina Dobrev from Vampire Diaries (Love her) – and made them sing and dance – How freaking fantastic was that?

And then the big snore began. But at least we have Fashion to talk about right? Eh. As you will see below there were a lot more misses then hits and even the hits weren’t that jaw dropping gorgeous. So lets start with the best dressed shall we… Taking the #1 place in my book is as always Lea Michele, this girl never disappoints at an award show.

The theme of this award show was navy blue in the lead and white close behind. Lea Michele, Jayma Mays, Jane Krakowski, Padma Lakshmi and Jane Lynch (Although they ended up on the other side of this pretty train) were all sporting this fabulous color. While Kim Kardashian, Rose Byrne, Amber Riley, Elisabeth Moss, Giuliana Rancic, Nina Dobrev, Mariska Hargitay and Claire Danes opted out for the classic white and it’s many shades.

Now lets move on to the worst dressed… The absolute worst was Mindy Kaling from the office. I do not know what that girl was thinking but she looks like she is going to her very own 80′s prom. Newly wed Anna Paquin who always dresses to impress, did not bring it to the Emmy’s. Her Alexander McQueen black satin frock with the gold gladiator shoulders was not working at all and covered up that hot body of hers. Nina Dobrev who I absolutely adore on Vampire Diaries seemed to channel her alter ego Katherine and looked the part in her Victorian one shoulder dress with a leg slit and way too much lace.

Mariska Hargitay looked like she was wearing a wedding dress (Seriously people, it’s a thin line, don’t cross it), Christina Hendricks from Mad Men… gosh what can you say about this one… her red hair and fair skin in a pastel purple gown with feathers; someone really needs to get in there and smack her around a bit because this is not the first time she put her giant gazoongas in an awful outfit and took them for a walk. As much as I love Emily Deschanel, she looks like she was eaten by a giant purple flower. Kerri Russell who is working on a come back with Amy Pohler’s husband needs to bring in Betty White to conduct an Easter egg hunt because those little nubs are in the wrong dress. Now if we put Christina Hendricks in that dress (Since she has the right stuff to fill it out) and change the color to black, she’d look pretty damn good. The Hills’ Lo Bosworth looks like she is going to a PTA meeting and  last but not least, Sofia Vergara and Naya Rivera looked like they robbed the Miss Universe pageant.

A Review of The Olive Garden | Fine Italian Dining?

When you think Italian fine dining, do you think of the Olive Garden?  Well the obvious answer is no, of course not but for me and the misses we decided to take the plunge and visit the Olive Garden together for the first time.  Our restaurant of choice this time around resides at NE 181 st. and Biscayne Boulevard in North Miami FL.

We arrived around 7 pm on a Saturday evening and the place was pretty packed, as we expected.  We grabbed one of those black square things and waited around about 15 minutes before being seated at a booth, as we requested.  Our waiter’s name was Daniel and as I remember it, he came over and offered us drinks immediately.  Good Start.

As is tradition now when Mrs. Smith and I visit a chain restaurant, I ordered the sampler appetizer of fried calamari, chicken fingers and beef toasted ravioli.  As an entree, I decided on the mixed grill (one chicken skewer and one beef skewer with grilled vegetables) and Mrs. Smith picked the Seafood Portofino, which was made up of mussels, shrimp and other seafood I can’t remember at the moment, on a bed of pasta with a cream sauce.  While we waited, we were treated to unlimited salad and bread-sticks.  FINALLY after 25 years of non-stop commercials, I was able to see what the fuss was all about.  Salad great / bread-sticks not so much for me because I’m not a fan of garlic.  Mrs. Smith liked ‘em, so I guess they were good.

While we were waiting for our food to arrive, we noticed just how many elderly people there were at Olive Garden this time of night.  To our left was a very German couple and everywhere else we looked, there seemed to be senior citizens between the ages of 65 and 95.  The poor bastard we had serve us also had some very demanding customers to take care of and I felt nothing but pity for him.  I heard conversations about everything from WWII to if the television “program” called “Letterman” was on Saturday’s.  Serious life changing stuff.

Appetizers arrived and the chicken and calamari was great.  Unfortunately, I found the fried beef ravioli to be all bread and no meat so we plowed through the first two and reluctantly finished up the rest of our ravioli.   Shortly after finishing our appetizers, our food arrived and the portion size was very nice.  My skewers looked quite tasty and Mrs. Smith also found her dish appealing.  Digging in, I found my medium-rare beef and vegetables to be absolutely fantastic.  The chicken was somewhat dry, so I tried to eat that right away before it turned into a rock (which it did anyway).  Mrs. Smith took care of all her seafood and left just a little pasta on her plate and I can’t remember exactly what we talked about but we chatted away for about an hour.

Around 9pm, we asked for our check and with tax and tip, our bill came to a flat $55.  That’s somewhat expensive for a chain restaurant but I consider the Olive Garden on the Outback Steakhouse level.  Just a notch above the rest.  Overall, our experience was fantastic, the service was fantastic and our food was very good.  We’ll definitely be planning a second and third visit to the Olive Garden soon.  I certainly wouldn’t consider the Olive Garden Fine Italian Dining, but I would consider it Quality Italian Dining.

Changing Hosting Plans Ain't Easy

If you’re a regular visitor to the site or even if this is your first visit you probably noticed that there hasn’t been anything written for the last three weeks and if there was, it’s all gone now. Well here is the story. Up until yesterday, I was under the strict regime of GoDaddy.com. About a year and a half ago, Mr. Smith and I purchased the domain name That’s-All-Folks.com as well as a three year hosting plan. Needless to say, our experience has been less than pleasant.

Besides the fact that any updates to your account may take hours to go into effect,  there was also the recent slew of malware attacks that prevented you from doing anything within your wordpress account and placed a little virus on your homepage giving it to every passer by. In the past month or so I spent over twenty hours backing up, deleting, reinstalling and fixing all the files in my database. The straw that broke the camels back however is probably the most important thing to a website and that is load time. The slower the website loads, the less likely visitors will be coming back.  I don’t believe I remember the site ever having decent load time but when it started taking over a minute to load, that was it for us. We contacted GoDaddy.com because we were concerned with the  frequent occurrences and received the most generic answer we could think of – “It’s our server, we’re working on it but we don’t have a schedule  so there’s no knowing when anything will be fixed” – and suggested that we pay about $30 a month for a dedicated server (we were currently on a shared server with God knows how many other people and a dedicated server will be just ours – ergo faster load time).

We still had over a year left on our account so we decided to get a refund for what was left over and try out the dedicated server for a month. I called Go Daddy back and was bombarded with question about my technical knowledge because apparently when I get a dedicated (or virtual) server I have to manage it completely, a little piece of information that we would have appreciated from the get go. So turns out that unless you are a technical whiz, you have to deal with very lengthy load times and no help. We immediately decided to make the hard decision of changing hosts. We turned to BlueHost.com as we’ve heard many good things about them from fellow website owners.

Since it’s been over a year since I set up the original site, I was a little rusty and not entirely comfortable switching everything that needed to be switched and how. A few hours later and a few phone calls to their helpful customer service reps, everything was done. I had to change the info in my Filezilla to connect to the ftp and move all the files I backed up earlier, mind you, your ftp files don’t actually contain your database and you have to upload it separately into your wordpress / Blue Host account (Don’t ask). The problem was that since I already canceled my Go Daddy account (At which point they immediately delete all your information and database) I couldn’t go back and get some of the info I needed like my wordpress database. All I had was a database back up I made three weeks ago and so any posts or changes to the posts I have made since then have been permanently deleted, never to be seen again.

So a piece of advice to anyone attempting to go through this dangerous procedure, make sure your new hosting plan is set up before canceling your old one, you never know what you might need to go back for. I am very sad about the few articles that are now gone but I guess that is life right? In case your wondering, the site now loads in about 1-2 seconds which is absolutely fantastic and so far BlueHost.com has been great. Unlike Go Daddy, Blue Host offers unlimited space, unlimited email usage and unlimited domains to be used on one account as well as a great selection of freebies and advertising credits.

Happy Holidays… See Ya In a Week!

Tomorrow me and Mr. Smith will be boarding a plane to snowy NJ to spend Christmas with his family. Therefore I wanted to tell my 5 loyal readers that I will not be writing for a whole week. I hope that nothing exciting happens while we’re gone, so just sit tight and I will be back in no time to report the daily news ;-) .

The Siberian Husky – One Day…

siberian-huskyWatching one of my recent favorite show – Dogs 101 – on Animal Planet, I finally saw the Husky story. I personally have never had a dog but have dreamed of one all my life. I love big dogs, and living in a tiny apartment in downtown Miami, would not be fair to my future best friend. I never knew exactly what kind of dog I wanted because I really do love them all but Mr. Smith had mentioned that the only dog he will be willing to have is a husky (He loves snow). After giving it some thought, I immediately fell in love with the idea and as soon as we move up north and have a good size house and yard – I WILL have that dog. ;-)

After watching the Husky special I realized that it really is the perfect dog for me. The husky is a strong silent type but when it comes to making it’s point across it can howl so loud, he can be heard up to 10 miles away. The breed is originally from North East Siberia but was brought to America by way of Alaska in 1909. The Huskies love pulling sleds in cold weather which may become easy since they have well furred toes that insulate sub zero temperatures, can change it’s metabolism which allows them to run for long periods of time and not get tired and of course their double layer coat that can withstand temps of up to -160. They have a great adventures spirit, sometimes against their own good so you might want to make sure the leash is well secure  when you take them on a trip or your Husky might go on their own little adventure.

When it comes to training, they are a very smart breed so make sure you don’t try to outsmart them – They’ll know. They do have a lot of energy so make sure they have a large space to run around in. Their thick coat does need attention so weekly grooming is necessary. They are prone to some health issues such as hip displacement and eye issues but they are great with kids and can make a great family pet.  One day…

Writers Block Sucks!

writers-block

It’s been awhile since I wrote anything, I know. And it’s like there’s nothing to write about, there is, just nothing I am interested in writing about. So Miley quit Twitter and Jon and Kate are together again for twins birthday party… Who the F cares??? I promised myself I will never write anything about stupid things like that and I intend to keep it. I promise as soon as I find something news worthy I will definitely add on… If you have any ideas, please don’t be shy!

We’re Not Dead… We Just Moved! :-)

House_MovingHello faithful readers. We just wanted to let everyone know that the reason we haven’t written in a while is because we just moved. From a termite / roach / worm infested, no central air, old hand-me-down furniture apartment to a hardwood floor, stainless steel appliances, 36th floor that the bugs can’t reach, central aired, working on the new furniture, terrific view (Pics to come), dream of an apartment.

So right now I am sitting on a lawn chair in the living room (All I need is some sand in my toes) next to blankets and pillows (For Mr. Smith to sit on of course). Don’t worry, posts will be coming soon. In fact Mr. Smith promised he will be doing the Spain preview while I go to dinner with friends :-) but we’ll see…

Have you ever had a bad experience with an apartment? Share…

Why We Do What We do!

Hollywood signIf you read Our Story you would already know a little bit about our background and how we met. You would also know that we work together but what you don’t know is that we work for an Affiliate Network and for the last few weeks my job consisted of reading other people’s blogs (Financial to be exact). Although we run a completely different blog here, there are still many similarities and many things that I have learned.

One of the things I’ve learned is that every self respecting blogger has an extensive “About Us” page that details their life and the reason for their blog creation. So I started thinking, and I suppose I should explain what this blog is all about.

First of all, I am a huge Entertainment buff. Unlike any entertainment site out there, I will not write about people I have no interest in and I will not cover every tedious story like “Lindsey Lohan, driving a car, where is Sam?” It’s stupid and it’s pointless.  I will also write about more then just entertainment. I love fashion, I love to travel, I love good food.  I will write about anything and everything that interests me and Mr. Smith will write about anything that interests him, like Sports :-) . We will also talk about our lives and the crazy interesting things that happen to us. (Hahaha NOT)

This is not your run of the mill celebrity gossip site, this is the Meca of everything interesting and I hope you enjoy it.

If you like what you see and read, just subsribe to our feed to recieve email updates every time we post something new. If you have any questions Contact us.

2 for $20 at Applebee’s Review

applebeesMrs. Smith and I like to occasionally dine-out on a Saturday Night and being that we have no money, the Applebee’s 2 for $20 sounded just right.  After a quick trip to Google Maps, we were on our way to the Applebee’s located in Doral.

We arrived around 5:45 pm, which seems a few minutes too late, as there was a good size amount of people waiting.  Not a problem, when people wait, they wait because the food is good, so we were handed our black beeper (cool little device that blinks and vibrates when your table is ready) and we patiently waited outside.  About 20 minutes we were seated at what was undoubtedly the coldest table in the Restaurant.  Although there was no vent next to us, we were seated by a very drafty window.  South Florida seems to have a case of recent wet weather, so it was somewhat chilly outside.

Anyway, after being seated we waited for just over 15 minutes before a waitress came to our table asking for our drink or menu order.  Mrs. Smith gave every passer by a glaring look of anger but I managed to keep my cool.  We decided to order the Boneless Buffalo Wings as an appetizer and the Mrs. had the A1 Stake-house Burger, while I chose the Three Cheese Chicken Penne (The most expensive thing on the regular menu for this promotion, I thought I would get a maximum return on my selection).

The Buffalo wings (10) arrived shortly thereafter with 5 pieces of celery and a blue cheese type sauce.  Too small to be worth the $8.65 they are on the menu, we gobbled them down pretty quickly as they tasted pretty good.  Only a couple of minutes later, our entrée’s were ready!  Mrs. Smith was served her Burger first, (so few serve the lady first) then I was given a big bowl of Pasta.  Absent from my pasta was the focaccia stick it should have come with and the serving of grilled chicken that was used was smaller than I had anticipated (About half a breast, sliced)

The first words out of Mrs. Smith’s mouth when describing her burger was “a little pathetic” and I was less than impressed with my meal.  Considering the advertisement we were bombarded with when we logged on to Applebee’s website, we expected the Burger to be much more impressive in look.  Setting our early feelings aside, we dug into our meals and finished around the same time.  While the wife had good things to say about the taste of her Steak-house Burger, and the taste of the Honey-Mustard sauce they gave her, I struggled to down my Pasta filled bowl as the mix of cheeses and lack of chicken made for a very heavy meal.

To finish the meal properly, we asked for the desert menu, which we didn’t realize was considerably short.  Only four choices to choose from, we decided to share the Triple Chocolate Melt-Down (Heated Chocolate Cake with fudge, vanilla ice-cream and whip cream).  Two spoons and 5 minutes later, it was devoured and undoubtedly the most delicious and well presented part of the evening for the both of us.  With tax and tip, the meal set us back $32.00.  Was it worth it?  Probably not but with the right waiter, table and meal, it certainly could be.
